"Provincetown Skyline #1", Encaustic Wax on cradled birch panel.
A rendering of the Provincetown, Mass. skyline at sunset. This piece was painted by hand in encaustic wax. There is no photo underlay, just brush strokes and wax paint fused with heat.
Encaustic Wax is an ancient painting method using a medium of beeswax, resin (tree sap), and pigments. Many layers are used to create a painting, and each layer must be fused together with heat.
Jennifer Creech is a painter, sculptor, and photographer who lives and works on Cape Cod.
