Artist's Description
Flower and Babbling Brook is an Encaustic (Greek for "to Burn In") Wax Painting. This painting, was created using Beeswax, Tree Sap(Damar Resin), Lac Bug Secretions (Shellac), pigments (Oils and Powders), and a heat source (Blow Torch in my case). This very ancient medium is so archival that we have examples of beautiful portraits in wax that are over two thousand years old! Encaustic Painting became a true Lost Art when Oil paints came on the scene. That is, until Jasper Johns revived the Art Form in the 1950's.
